The author takes you on a whirlwind tour of the underside of urban life based on her experience as a transsexual woman in San Francisco's notorious Tenderloin district. Through this collection of short stories and poetry she relates a life of prostitution, drug addiction and sex-change, of living on the edge. Filled with graphic descriptions of love and life gone awry, this collection of short works is a compelling look at a world few people have known.

Author description
Christine Beatty is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area and a transsexual woman whose sordid past might be most generously described as "checkered." In late 1985 she graduated Skyline College with honors and then began working as a prostitute when she found herself ostracized by the "normal" world. She progressed to IV heroin four months later and completely broke down by the end of 1986. Two years later she got sober (as a "man") in a Veteran's Administration hospital and soon turned her life around as a software engineer, writer, musician and transgender activist in San Francisco.

Since 1990, Christine's writing has been published in Spectator magazine, the Bay Area Reporter, the San Francisco Bay Times, Tapestry, TransSisters and numerous other periodicals and several anthologies, including Beyond Definition and Herotica 4. Christine also sings and plays guitar, and in 1995 she had the distinction of being one of the first transsexual women to sing and play in a working, recording heavy metal rock band until she left music to return to writing in 2003.

She grew up in the suburbs south of San Francisco, served in the USAF and lived in "The City" most of her adult life. She currently resides in Los Angeles.
