As part of the Leaps and Bounds Yarra live music festival, the Hare Hole is excited to announce that the one-woman Australian powerhouse, Margret RoadKnight, is performing here.
Margret is a unique and passionate artist, renowned for her powerful vocals and wide-ranging roots-based repertoire with lyrics full of wit and wisdom. Her 1970’s breakthrough hit ‘Girls in Our Town’ is a fondly remembered Australian classic, but Margret has 52 years experience with professional singing which has taken her all over the world, seen her featured at festivals both nationally and internationally, performed theme songs for films, and has seen her featured on a range of TV and radio shows. Margret has recorded 10 solo albums and has been featured on 29 others.
She is accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Kenny White.
Margret RoadKnight was born in Melbourne in July 1943, was based in Sydney for several decades, Brisbane for another, and currently lives in Lakes Entrance in regional Victoria. The year 2015 marks 52 years of professional singing and 41 years since her first record was released. Margret made her singing debut at a Melbourne theatre in 1963. Since then she has performed solo, and collaborated with a plethora of local and overseas performers on jazz, blues, gospel, folk, comedy and social commentary songs in concert halls, cathedrals, clubs and campuses from Broome to Hobart, Beijing to Memphis, Paris to Auckland, Edinburgh to Tel Aviv, New York to Seoul, Amsterdam to Dublin, New Orleans to London, Vancouver to Nuku'alofa.
She has performed at the Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth arts festivals; the Port Fairy and Woodford folk festivals; at the Sunbury, Myponga and Narara rock festivals; the National Conventions, Montsalvat and Gold Coast International jazz festivals; and the East Coast Byron Bay, Goulburn Australian and Bridgetown blues festivals.
